What is Dietetics After-School Program?

The Dietetics After School Program (DAP) gives pre-dietetics students (and any other students with a passion for healthy living) the opportunity to teach fun, interactive nutrition classes for after school programs in the Provo School District.

Volunteer Commitment: Volunteers who join DAP must commit to at least one semester of teaching. Classes are taught for 8 weeks beginning in the second month of each semester.

How do I get involved?:

How do I get involved?

We prefer that our volunteers have some background in nutrition (have taken NDFS 100 or equivalent), and only accept volunteers at the beginning of fall and winter semesters. If you miss these deadlines, we can put you on a waiting list for the next semester or an on-call list for the current semester. Check out our website for more information: For additional information, email us at During the semester, we should respond to you within 2-3 days. Emails in the summer will be responded to towards the beginning of fall semester.

Please complete this mandatory 20 minute child protection training before you begin working with the children.

My favorite part of my experience in DAP is the relationships I get to make with others. I love getting to know the elementary school children over the course of the semester. They love to learn, and our lessons really do make an impact on them. It is hard to leave the last day because you have learned to love the kids so much and they love having us there! DAP is definitely the highlight of every semester.

Whenever I'd be teaching the kids at schools, the best part was hearing them make connections. We teach them about nutrition and they tell us how they will apply what they've learned. They want to try to be healthy and that makes me want to continue serving.
