Partners in the Arts
What is Partners in the Arts?
This program cannot accept volunteers at this time
This program pairs BYU volunteers with local middle school students who may be unable to afford private music lessons. You are mentoring through music! It's an incredible experience to share a skill that you have developed with others.
We mostly teach lessons on orchestra or band instruments at this time, with a few students learning piano or guitar. If you sing or play the piano we encourage you to also look into other music programs available in Y-Serve through Best Buddies, Utah Healing Arts, or Adaptive Show Choir.
Volunteer Commitment: We ask that volunteers commit to one hour each week. There will be carpooling available.
We will be having an info meeting for Winter semester in January. There will be a combined recital in December.
How do I get involved?
If you feel comfortable teaching a specific band or orchestra instrument, please contact the program directors at email@example.com. You will need to fill out a BYU Background check in our office, 2330 WSC, before volunteering, and then you can start teaching soon!
Please complete this mandatory 20 minute child protection training before you begin working with the children.
Seeing the students at the Spring Recital was and is so gratifying and humbling. When I see these kids who are so happy to show what they've learned, and see their great friendship with their teachers and I know that it is all possible because volunteers chose to take the time to help them learn and grow, it all makes it worth it. I am so grateful that I have had the chance to work with these wonderful kids and volunteers. It has truly made my experience here at BYU meaningful and worthwhile.
