Leaders of Literacy
What is Leaders of Literacy?
Thank you for your interest in Y-Serve’s Leaders of Literacy program! Leaders of Literacy is a dedicated service program where volunteers commit their time to reading with students at local elementary schools. This engaging and enjoyable activity not only provides a fun experience for both the volunteers and the children but also plays a crucial role in enhancing the students' literacy skills. By fostering a supportive and interactive reading environment, Leaders of Literacy helps children develop a love for reading, improve their comprehension, and build their confidence in their literacy abilities. Volunteers in this program make a meaningful impact on the children's educational journey, contributing to their academic success and future opportunities. Through consistent, one-on-one reading sessions, Leaders of Literacy strives to empower young learners and cultivate a community of proficient and enthusiastic readers.

Reading with the same students consistently allowed me to build a friendship I wouldn't have otherwise. The student I worked with motivates me and makes me excited about learning all over again as I recognize his motivation and eagerness to learn. Family Literacy is about more than just reading, but the connection found through it.
Working with these kids helps me gain a deeper appreciation of God's love. Kids can be wild, but that doesn't matter. When you see these kids, you feel a deep love for them that nothing can change. That's how God feels about us. I'm grateful for this opportunity to teach them how to read, and feel God's love while doing it.
