What is Dent-ucation?

Dent-ucation is an outreach program targeted toward providing children with an early knowledge of the importance of dental hygiene. The purpose of the program is to educate children on why taking care of their teeth is important and how they can do so.

As a volunteer at Dent-ucation, you will visit local elementary school classrooms and give interactive, 15-minute presentations on oral hygiene to children of grades 1st through 3rd. Classroom sizes typically vary between 15 to 25 students. Feeling apprehensive about presenting in front of an audience? We provide training regularly to help our volunteers feel comfortable while presenting and to help them learn how to tailor their message to young minds using research-based methods.

While a template presentation is provided, willing volunteers are welcome to offer modifications and revisions as they see fit to best suit their own presentation styles and the needs of the students.

How do I get involved?

Volunteer Description: Volunteers will be tied to a school district and will be responsible for coordinating with other volunteers within the program to ensure all schools are visited and oral health presentations are given.

Volunteer Commitment: Volunteers commit to at least 3 school visits during the Fall and Winter semesters individually. The volunteer time of each school visit varies from 1-3 hours. Other volunteer responsibilities include attending bi-weekly trainings to improve presentation and classroom management skills.
