Scenic View
What is Scenic View?
Scenic View Academy is a residential school for adults with autism spectrum disorders and learning disabilities. This program is designed to provide meaningful relationships between volunteers and academy residents. Activities are designed to enhance social interaction and build confidence.
How do I get involved?
Volunteer Commitment:
FHE each Monday at 6:30PM. Email to schedule in advance. If a volunteer is interested in going, please contact the executive director (info found under 'Contact Us' tab) to set that up/see if it's happening that week. Students looking to join the program are committing to at least 1 hour per week of attending the Scenic View Academy for FHE. The Scenic View students appreciate all the love and support they can get!
Scenic View meets for a modified Sacrament Meeting and Sunday School with the Academy's students on some Sundays, so if a volunteer is interested in going, please contact the executive director (info found under 'Contact Us' tab) to set that up/see if it's happening that week.
Training:
Please complete this mandatory 25 minute Minor Protection Training before you begin working with this program.
A few years ago when I started volunteering at Scenic View, I hoped that my friendship would make a difference in the lives of the students. With that said, I never could have imagined what a difference they would make in mine. The students at Scenic View have taught me some of the most important lessons of my college career. They have taught me to never let my challenges keep me from being the person God wants me to become. They have taught me how to love others with a pure heart and how to be happy even amidst challenges. Every week I leave Scenic View filled with the joy of serving as well as with a desire to be better. There is no better place to experience what Y-Serve is all about!
