Service Council
What is Service Council?
Fifteen students are selected to comprise the Service Council. These Council members typically have served as Directors in the Center for Service and Learning, and are responsible for training current Executive Directors and Program Directors in leadership skills and program administration. Each Service Council member oversees five or six of Y-Serve’s 70 programs.
The Service Council operates under the close supervision of the Y-Serve director who trains them in advanced leadership skills. Council members in turn train student leaders, plan events, conduct regular stewardships, and plan and attend several student-leader retreats during the year.
How do I get involved?
Service Council applications are available in March for the following school year. If you intend to apply, please email chris_crippen@byu.edu to let him know.
Volunteer Commitment:
Service Council members must be enrolled as full-time students, have a 3.0 cumulative GPA at the time of application and throughout the term of service, and abide by Center and University policies and procedures. They are expected to spend 4-5 hours a week in administrative and planning activities, in directing service with their programs, and in office hours. They must be available during April, May, June and August, and at a specified time each week (including Wednesdays from 3:00 to 5:00) for stewardships, training, planning, and reflection.
Training:
Please complete this mandatory 25 minute Minor Protection Training before you begin working with this program.
I LOVE Y-Serve because it brings joy and purpose to my life. Service is a great way to get to know the Savior so I love that I am able to do that along with amazing people!
I love Y-Serve because it brings out the best in me. Y-Serve's mission is our Heavenly Father's mission to help us become life-long disciples.
Y-Serve is a place where every BYU student can make a difference! I love that Y-Serve is a beacon of service, purpose, and Christlike love for others.
My favorite thing about Y-Serve is that we have the opportunity to connect with so many different people and make an impact in our community.
