Shop and Serve

What is Shop and Serve?

Shop and Serve (KIND Fund) is an opportunity to connect with the community in fun and meaningful ways! Community educators identify students in K-12 schools in need of clothes, shoes, coats, or other items, and submit a request for KIND Fund assistance. Then, a volunteer is given the appropriate information to shop for the child with a KIND Fund sponsored gift card. Y-Serve leaders will deliver the items directly to the school, where the educator can give them to the child.

How do I get involved?

BECOME A VOLUNTEER

Volunteers will participate in the program by attending group shopping events (sign up below). Program leaders will distribute shopping tasks to attending volunteers, and volunteers will have one hour to shop for the needed items. Additional training will be given prior to every group shopping event. Transportation is provided by Y-Serve (please only drive yourself if you have special circumstances). If you are interested in volunteering, please use this link to sign up for a future Shop and Serve activity. We can only accommodate a certain number of volunteers for each activity, and as such, we ask that you only sign up for events that you are certain you will attend.

Volunteers will commit to giving two hours of their time for every event they sign up to attend. Sign up is first come, first serve. Training will be given prior to each group shopping event. As such, it is important that you meet outside of the Y-Serve office before your scheduled event to complete the necessary training and make the shopping experience great for everyone!

BECOME A LEADER

Volunteer Leader Description: There are two kinds of leadership positions: Lead Program Director and Program Director. A program only has one Lead Program Director, but multiple Program Directors. Leaders are generally responsible for overseeing recruitment, retention, and reflection with volunteers. They also coordinate service with community partners and ensure their program runs smoothly. Volunteer leaders may also share the responsibilities of volunteers as outlined in the Volunteer Description. For more information, visit our section called Be a Leader!

Volunteer Leader Commitment: In addition to volunteering, Volunteer leaders commit to a 1-hour monthly team meeting to discuss needs and make plans for the program.
