Teaching and Loving Children (TLC)
What is Teaching and Loving Children?
TLC volunteers spend time as aides, helping local preschoolers and teachers in the classroom. If you're looking for a chance to serve in a fun way with flexibility, this is a great option for you!
We are currently volunteering with Sunrise Preschool, one of the easier off-campus volunteer locations to get to. It's close enough to walk or bike to if you don't have a car. Volunteers are needed during school hours (Monday through Thursday, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm) and are free to choose the times that best fit their schedule.
How do I get involved?
BECOME A VOLUNTEER
Volunteer Description: Volunteers interact with children at Sunrise Preschool, helping the teachers and supporting the students.
Volunteer Commitment: Volunteers commit to at least one hour a week, but are welcome to volunteer for more.
Step 1:
Contact the program directors directly or e-mail the program at tlc@byu.edu to get involved.
Step 2:
Please complete this mandatory 25-minute Minor Protection Training before you begin working with the children.
BECOME A LEADER
Volunteer Leader Description: There are two kinds of leadership positions: Lead Program Director and Program Director. A program only has one Lead Program Director, but multiple Program Directors. Leaders are generally responsible for overseeing recruitment, retention, and reflection with volunteers. They also coordinate service with community partners and ensure their program runs smoothly. Volunteer leaders may also share the responsibilities of volunteers as outlined in the Volunteer Description. For more information, visit our section called Be a Leader!
Volunteer Leader Commitment: In addition to volunteering, Volunteer leaders commit to a 1-hour monthly team meeting to discuss needs and make plans for the program.

I loved volunteering at the pre-school with the learning activities. The first day I went, we helped the kids start recognizing and replicating picture patterns. I don’t know that they cared much about the patterns but it was fun to see how excited they were about the different kinds of cars. Also listening to 4 year olds say "helicopter" is adorable.
